INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION AT THE CROSSROADS

Nektaria PALAIOLOGOU

University of Western Macedonia, Greece

Nektaria Palaiologou is associate professor in “Intercultural Education” at the Department of Early Childhood Education-School of Education of the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM). Currently, she is an elected board member of the International Association for Intercultural Education (IAIE) and serves as Editor in Chief of the “Intercultural Education” Journal, Taylor and Francis group. She also cooperates with international journals as frequent basis reviewer and Editor of Intercultural/Multicultural Education Series at CSP.

She has been the academic supervisor of the National Programme “Integration of second generation migrant students in the educational system” (2010), “SIRIUS: Education of Children and Young People with a Migrant background” (2014) and was an Ally Partner “IEREST: Intercultural Education Resources for Erasmus Students and their Teachers” (2014) with UoWM as partner. Under her scientific supervision are organized annual international seminars addressed to teachers and adult trainers, also international conferences.

Nektaria has edited two international books and written three books in Greek language on Intercultural Education and Migration issues.

She is directing the Hellenic Association for Intercultural Education (HAIE), an official chapter of IAIE in Greece, focusing on research in the direction of Intercultural and Human Rights Education for the following teams: migrants, Roma, minorities, refugees.

Her current research interests focus on: educational and citizenship issues for migrant children in Greece, and on teachers’ education and training in the field of Intercultural/Multicultural Education.
