INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION AT THE CROSSROADS

Yiannis MIRALIS

European University, Cyprus

Dr. Yiannis Miralis is Associate Professor of Music Education and Saxophone, Vice Dean and International Relations Coordinator at the School of Arts and Education Sciences at European University Cyprus. His areas of interest are world music pedagogy, multicultural music education, instrumental music education and saxophone chamber music. He served as assistant professor at the University of Idaho and he has also taught at the University of Windsor in Canada and the University of Cyprus. He has extensive teaching experience in various public and private schools in Cyprus and the USA. He has presented performances, workshops and papers in various conferences in the areas of music education, ethnomusicology and saxophone. He is president of the Cyprus Saxophone Association and board member of the European Chamber Music Teachers’ Association (ECMTA). Miralis maintains an active career as a member of the Mediterranean Trio and the Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet, performing widely in Europe and the USA
